The Benefits of Xeomin (A BOTOX Alternative)

At Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons of Western New England, we endeavor to stay up-to-date on the latest available treatments. One such example is Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA). This injectable medication is an alternative to BOTOX injections that offers several benefits to our Springfield patients.

Like BOTOX and Dysport, Xeomin is a form of botulinum toxin. Unlike BOTOX, however, Xeomin does not have additives -- it is truly a "naked" toxin. While allergic reactions to BOTOX are highly unlikely, the risk for reactions is reduced with Xeomin because the body should not develop antibodies to the additives present in the injectable. In addition to this benefit, Xeomin does not require refrigeration. This makes it easier to transport and can be used in different settings.

Xeomin is FDA-approved to treat severe frown lines that occur between the eyes. Also known as "11's," these lines occur due to overactive muscles that take on an increasingly wrinkled appearance as a person ages.

When our Springfield Xeomin specialists inject the medication into specific points in the face, the Xeomin works to keep the muscles from contracting excessively by blocking nerve transmissions that would cause them to contract. As a result, a person's facial wrinkles appear smoother and the face takes on a more youthful appearance.

An estimated 84,000 people worldwide have used Xeomin to reduce the appearance of frown lines. The results can last anywhere from three to six months. You should not "mix" Botox, Dysport and/or Xeomin in any given time period. Always notify our Springfield facial specialists if you have received any of these treatments within the past six months before undergoing Xeomin injections.
